Considered one of the finest, most versatile and in-demand bass players, L.A.-based bassist, Lyman Medeiros, discovered a passion for jazz early in his life and that passion has fueled a fierce career. Lyman picked up his first electric bass at age thirteen and began studying the upright bass at eighteen following up with Bachelor and Masters Degrees at Ball State and Western Michigan University respectively. In 2005 Lyman’s alma mater Ball State University awarded him an Alumni Citation of Achievement for his success in the field of music.
After moving to Los Angeles in 2000, Lyman quickly became one of the most in-demand bassists in Southern California. He’s toured and recorded with legendary artists such as Steve Tyrell, Michael Buble, and many more, and has traveled all over the world. He has been featured in the Jazz and Paz Concert Series as bass counterpart in thechamber jazz combo of 2 + 1 with vocalist, Jamie Perez, clarinetist, John Tegmeyer and trumpet legend, Nolan Shaheed and now with his own very unique Black Market Reverie on vocals and bass.
Lyman’s style and influences are as diverse as his own Portuguese, Polynesian and Irish background and after relocating to Los Angeles he quickly became a well-known and in-demand presence on the West Coast Jazz scene working with artists such as N’Dugu Chancellor, Kenny Rankin, Mike Melvoin, Greg Field, Bill Cunliffe, Patti Austin, Michael Feinstein, and Mary Clayton.
In the summer of 2003, Lyman toured with vocal sensation and Warner Bros. Recording artist Michael Buble. That tour took him around the world performing in Africa, Australia, Europe, and Southeast Asia. The experience is documented on the young singer’s 2004 CD/DVD Come Fly With Me. He has been performing and touring with popular vocalist and Koch recording artist Steve Tyrell for over 15 years. He has performed with the vocalist throughout Europe playing festivals in Turkey; Switzerland; Spain and Scotland and Italy.
He has had the pleasure of playing on some of the world’s most renown jazz stages including Birdland, the Blue Note in New York City, the Blue Note Tokyo, the Blue Note Milan, Ronnie Scott’s in London, the House of Blues in Chicago, Yoshi’s in San Francisco, and the Hollywood Bowl, Catalina’s and the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles with many world-class musicians including Bill Cunliff, Jane Monheit, Monica Mancini and toured Africa, Australia, Europe and Southeast Asia with Canandian vocal sensation Michael Buble. He has performed with symphonies including, Nashville, Houston, Kansas City and the Boston Pops.
